Q. What are the benefits of a custom made orthotic over one that is prefabricated?
A. Many foot problems are caused by bio-mechanical problems, to correct these problems an orthotic needs to be fabricated to each foot. At Orthotics To You, each orthotic is made from an impression of your feet. This is the most effective way of treating the bio-mechanical problem.
Q. Are these the same orthotics that are used by Podiatrists?
A. Yes. These are the type of orthotics that we currently provide for our Podiatrist customers.
Q. How do I clean my orthotics?
A. They can be cleaned with warm soap and water. Avoid extreme high temperatures as this may change the orthotics shape.
Q. What are the orthotics made of?
A. They are fabricated using a Co- polymer, Polypropelene composites or graphite composites. The use of this material will provide flexibility, but it will maintain its shape and give good support for an extended period of time.
Q . How long will orthotics last?
A. In most cases the orthotics will last for years. In children they usually need to be changed about every two years depending upon growth.
Q. Do your orthotics have a guarantee?
A. Yes, the shell is guaranteed against breakage for one year. Any additions (padding, top covers, posting, etc.) are guaranteed 6 months from delivery to you date. We do provide an 30 day adjustment guarantee at no charge.
Q. What length are your orthotics?
A. The shell composite remains constant behind ball of foot (MPJ). Based on orthotics ordered, top cover, including mid layer padding, may be shell length, extend to under ball of foot or to end of toes. This variety allows us to meet your specific requirements.
Q. Can you make orthotics from molds of my feet that I already have?
A. Yes we can. Email us and we will be happy to discuss this. jonathan@orthoticstoyou.com
Q. What kinds of shoes will my orthotics work in?
A. Any shoe with a removable insole will work just fine. Please remove the original insole and replace it with the custom Orthotics To You insert. Some shoes without removable insoles will work as well. The things to be aware of for shoe without a removable insole are:
1. The insole you order should be 3/4 length
2. The interior of the shoe should be relatively flat
3. The design of the shoe should be such that it does not deform the finished insole.
Q. Can I use the inserts in more than one pair of shoes?
A. We do not recommend doing this, however if the shoes are of similar size and design, the answer is yes.
Q. I know that my right leg is shorter than my left leg can you accommodate this difference?
A. No. Heel lifts are a medically prescribed adjustment that we cannot accommodate.
Q. What is sulcus length?
A. This is our basic neutral shell orthotic that has the addition of a cushioning top cover that runs past the ball of the foot to the area where the toes begin (sulcus).
It does not run to the end of the foot. This is used when additional cushion is required under the ball of the foot. By ending at the sulcus, it will give the added cushion
without taking up room in the toe box which often crowds the toes, or requires the removal of the shoe insole.
Q. What is MPJ length?
A. This is our basic length orthotic that does not include additional padded extension (as with sulcus length & full length).
